We have 2 agent gateway codes having attempted to amalgamate the client bank of a purchased firm, as a start we have reset the passwords to both be the same, this is where it started to go wrong, the password contained a "special character" (HMRC words) which was accepted by our software but not the HMRC, we changed the password to omitt this, but access is still blocked every time we log in, the HMRC is blaming our software providers, for payroll we use Q/Books, Xero, Sage, has anyone else had this problem and how did they resolve it, it is causing us headaches as it is payroll year end.

Have you tried logging into HMRC directly through your agent accounts and resetting the passwords (use forgotton password link? - not sure what this does and don't want to try it!) and then putting the reset password into your software?

Hi Yes, we are at our wits end, nobody seems to know why we have this problem.
