HMRC email - bit confused

It makes no sense for it to be phishing, but then it is weird if it isn't...

Didn't find your answer?

Registered a client for SA on basis has property income.  2 days later 'he' (read: me as I used my email address on the form) gets an email suggesting he follow a (legitimate looking, it starts http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/courses/... ) link to read up on his responsibilities.

The thing is it comes from [email protected] which just seemed odd to me (and the only Google result it raises is a single accountant saying it is a phishing address).

Not following the link regardless, but curious as to whether it is odd and legit.

Both www.hmrc.gov.uk and hmrc.gsi.gov.uk are proper HMRC domains. So long as the sending address isn't spoofed (how to check this depends on your email system) and the link is actually taking you to a www.hmrc.gov.uk site (and not a different site than the text of the link suggests) then it would seem legitimate.

Ring the ADL and ask them. It's easy to spoof an email address. Less easy to spoof a telephone call when you can verify the number you are calling.

It's legit. It links to HMRC site with 48,000 pages of info.(more than most scammers are prepared to set up)
