HMRC failed to collect tax via PAYE code

HMRC have not processed the request to collect unpaid tax for the year 2022/23

Didn't find your answer?

My clients 2023 tax return resulted in a liability of £1,600, mostly due to uncoded Benefit.  Page TR6 of the tax return did not have a tick in box 2 and was submitted online on 20 December 2023.  Why haven't HMRC adjusted the self-assessment account to collect the tax via the PAYE code for year 2024/25?

Is this a 'permitted' query to phone HMRC agent dedicted line before 31 January?

This happens regularly, in my experience, you have no alternative but to be subjected to an hour's worth of tedious messages about how important your call is to them. . . but once you get through it will generally be sorted out in minutes.

I spoke to HMRC, in relation to this topic, some time ago.
The representative said they were aware that there software wasn't recognising this request and were making them manually.
Yes, it will be fixed while you're on the telephone. However, it is just another example of the frailty of HMRC's software. Presumably, another Fujitsu fault?

2024/25 codes are typically issued early March 2024.

Be patient.

You can see via Online Services now how it will be collected, whether through the code or due on 31 January. I assume that's what the OP has looked at thus knowing it is due for payment rather than being coded. A telephone call will sort it.

Used to be (issued) 'from beginning of Feb' but 'as late as 30 March';
Typically (more recent years) 'early to late March' as you say;
But now? Who knows?

Backlogs / processing / digitisation / communication ... it's all going so well!

True but the update on the Self Assessment account would be made when the return was processed, not when the tax code is issued.

if i need to speak to them i tend to ring em and preume they wil anyway - i might have another genuine case lined up as a gentle intro though

as long as they dont fail the cant collect more than amount of paye tax being deducted at source rule (or similar) i would expect they would correct situation if they speak to you - if not there is always webchat.
