HMRC No Longer Allow Re-submission of FPS

HMRC Employer Bulletin About NOT resubmitting FPS

Didn't find your answer?

Search AccountingWEB

I am looking for the HMRC Employer bulletin that says we may not re-submit an FPS.

Can anyone point me in the right direction, please?  I think it was about 18 months ago?

Thanks.

HMRC says the only time you should do it is if there is NO next period to make the changes.

We had one that went wrong about a year ago because HMRC doubled up in the month due to our resubmission. The first we knew of the problem was when the client had a late/underpayment notice.

I have literally just submitted an adjusted FPS for some hours that were missed off the payroll.

Check the software you are using. If it is capable of doing an FPS resubmission. As per my understanding, Moneysoft cannot do it and you have to adjust the figures in the next period return.

Your understanding is not correct.

Having said that, adjusting in the next period is usually the easiest route. The exception being if there isn't a next period.

Yes, you are absolutely right.

That's because HMRC takes a YTD submission each time and the numbers for the current period are taken from the movements between the one you just submitted and the one before.

You used to be able to re-submit with Moneysoft, albeit by taking a convoluted route, but I believe you are correct and it is now no longer possible to do it because HMRC does not want anyone to do it.

OK - well the old tick-box is still there.

Plus a new option "FPS Year To date Amendment", which I've not tried yet.

What do these options do, if not submit amended FPSs ?

I'm here to learn.

Think I saw somewhere that HMRC's advice is not to resubmit an FPS more than once at risk of messing up the figures they hold. However, there shouldn't be any reason you can't resubmit one as many times as you want.

Brightpay has an adjusted FPS option. That seems much better

Sounds like the same thing. I'm guessing HMRC see no difference on their side of the portal.

It isn't the same thing. The adjusted FPS can just show the employees whose pay is adjusted. It doesn't need to show everyone else's pay for that period.

I defer to your detailed knowledge of how the software works and what is submitted.

I can see the sensitive nature of this question. Oh, wait, I meant "can't".
