HMRC not expecting interim payments

Didn't find your answer?

Hi all

Your help would be appreciated with a curious position I have please.

My calculation show interims due for 18/19. Client is not self employed and his tax liability 17/18 is £4745 les POA made leaving a balancing payment due of £690 and 18/19 interims £2371.

HMRC have coded £690 and do not show interims as due.

Am I missing something obvious with this?

You say they're not self employed, how has the tax arisen? What income is your client receiving that HMRC have amended the tax code for?

I phoned the agent helpline about this and was told that it is a known issue.

They said they could formally add the POAs in, but that this would result in late payment interest being applied if the client hadn't paid it yet. Or, the client could just pay them as advised by me and everything would work out in the end.

I asked what if the client 'forgot' his July payment as he wont get a reminder, and was told that this would just mean a later balancing payment - no interest
