I now have come across another client whose return is showing as received by HMRC back in September but has not yet been processed, this is the second one I know of, anyone else noticed this?

Yes, I have one that was received 4 July, and does not show tax due.
I had to call HMRC before Christmas (14/12/20), and they emailed the "capture" department, and said it should take up to 5 days before it's processed.
4 January, still not processed. Another phone call to HMRC, and now sent to "Priority Capture Team", and promised that it should be processed by 13 January.
Now you mention it both of them do involve a taxpayer who receives MAT - why?
Needs checking to see the other party has surrendered/received the transfer.
That is probably the issue, I've had a few exactly the same this year, even when there have been MAT in the past. They seem to be put out for manual processing and SA302s are issued. Now you mention it both of them do involve a taxpayer who receives MAT - why?
I had one which we kicked along for months last year, but finally got processed.
Took a number of calls to agent services to get it processed.
Yep I have one, I’ve phoned & emailed HMRC with success.
Clients getting a bit cross with me and I don’t know what else I can tell them
Yes - we have had a couple. Tax return submitted but not showing any tax due. After speaking HMRC they advised the the return "hadn't been collected" and that they would give a nudge at their end. Anyway, a week after calling these have been updated.
Yes, I found one yesterday (there may be more). The Agent helpline said I would get a ring back today with the reason as to why the Return had not been processed and guess what ...... I am still waiting for the ring back.
Nothing unusual about the Return as far as I can see. It was received by HMRC over a month ago for processing, but nothing has happened.
Great stuff this Digital Age.
Yes - I've had a few this year. I've chased one but it still hasn't been captured. In January I just don't have time to sit on the phone chasing these (I'm too busy trying to chase a VAT registration - all lines are busy...call back later) but I imagine I'll have a few in February. The trouble is, it's so random. Other than checking every client, I'm not going to pick it up until they issue penalties or start refunding tax payments for which they don't have a matching liability.
I've got 7 cases. All are Marriage Allowance recipients. All are refunds. All the spouses' returns have been filed and each one contains a MA claim. This happened last year, and the year before and the year before that. This year Tax Returns with MA claims earlier in the year were all captured quickly. I've only had the problem with Returns submitted since the autumn. I've reported all to the ADL.

Ditto - happens every year and often to the same clients

Looks like a pattern.
