HMRC P800 after Tax Return

HMRC P800 after Tax Return

Didn't find your answer?

I recently submitted online a tax return for someone that does not normally need to complete one. I submitted it as they had some income from an estate, had made some gift aid payments and had started a SIPP. The return was submitted on 15th August and I have today received a P800 dated 26 August 2014 that totally ignores the tax return information and just uses the previously known salary and benefits from employment.

Is this normal? I assumed that the tax calculation would be automated once a tax return was submitted, so I am quite shocked to see that the systems do not seem to be linked (a bit naive of me now I think!).

So, my question is, do I need to I need to contact HMRC or will it eventually catch up with the tax return? I am worried that, as they had not requested a SA100, they are going to ignore the one that was submitted.

Thanks for any help!

When you say recently - how recently in relation to the P800. Don't forget HMRC are at l;east a month behind in dealing with Returns

Thanks Basil - I shall drop them a note!

Bernard - the P800 was issued 11 days after the SA100 was submitted online, so I guess I am expecting too much if they have a months backlog :) Thanks
