HMRC seems to take the initiative

HMRC begins to request a password

Didn't find your answer?

Those of us who've had family members in hospital, may have been asked to see up a pass-word, with the ward, so that they can access the state of their relative's health. Something along the lines of "starling", rather than the internet type password.

It seems that, following a plethora of scams, HMRC have taken the initiative to introduce a similar arrangement.

In respect of one of my client's, we were expecting a repayment of income tax, of around £350. It came as something of a shock, when the client received a refund, of over £7,000!

A call to the dedicated agent line and, it transpires that, the 2016/17 return wasn't captured correctly and, the payment made against that assessment, has been repaid. In any event, because HMRC need to follow up the enquiry with me, they've asked me to supply a unique pass-word.

Although I'm one of HMRC's biggest critics, I have to say this could/should be a sensible step to take and, could have the effect of reducing these very unfortunate scams. Whilst I won't hold my breath, let's hope this brings about a reduction in these crimes.

PS. I still struggle with these Aweb tags, hence water cooler!

HMRC? The organisation that makes it impossible to speak to the same person twice? That organisation want you to set-up an individual unique password to confirm that you are the correct person to speak to when they call back?

That one?

I know, I know! I first came across this, almost a week ago and, since then, I've made myself sore, with constant pinching!
