HMRC SELF ASSESMENT BANK REPAYMENT PENDING

Bank repayment pending?????

Didn't find your answer?

I made a request to withdraw money from my hmrc account. Within 2 days status changed to BANK REPAYMENT PENDING. this was over 3 weeks ago. Date also states PENDING. anyone know if this means it has passed security and will be with me soon? I haven't received any letters or anything. Any advice would be useful before I chase it up as I always seem to get palmed off over the telephone. Thanks in advance

I had this for a client a few years ago - it was supposed to be being referred for review but no one ever actually picked it up for review.
Keep calling them I would suggest - took months to sort it out.
Double check how they are making the payment too as cheques seem to regularly disappear

I keep calling and being told to wait on numerous times. Thinking there could be a backlog with COVID etc. Will wait until the end of the week and contact again. Thanks for replying!

Out of interest, what gave rise to the refund? Was it the initial submission of a return to HMRC that showed a refund, or as the result of an amendment to a return?

If the latter the the case is (or certainly used to be) added to an HMRC 'worklist' for review by a person.

The black hole of 'security checking' seemed to be a thing of the long gone past

Yes it was a submission of a return which then showed I was in credit and available to withdraw. I cannot remember the exact date I requested repayment but I’d say coming up to 4 weeks now. Date still says pending as does the repayment. Holding out until the end of the week then will contact them again. Thanks for your reply.

It could still be possible that an entry, such as an adjustment to tax based on an earlier year carryback claim might have got the return onto a worklist, but if it was a pretty standard return then unless it is a particularly large refund you may just have been unlucky. Good luck

HMRC don't usually get their skates on and look at an issue until the deadline has passed. I think they're advising that tax repayments are taking between 2-4 weeks to process. If 4 weeks haven't passed since you made the request that's probably why they keep fobbing you and asking you to call back.

The only time I've encountered it getting "stuck" at pending repayment was because an earlier year debt had been discovered and they wanted to settle this before issuing the money.
