HMRC sending wrong acknowledgment reference?

Hi everyone. We have registered about 25 clients for VAT, Payroll and self assessement since 1st April 2021 and we keep getting acknowledgment reference numbers by email that we have no idea who they belong to. Has anyone else had same issue?

I have just had a look and I had one VAT registration and the acknowledgement reference is different to the one when the application was submitted. So yes, a bit odd. However the VAT number only took 3 working days so can’t complain.

We had one for SA which says the client already has a UTR, luckily I know which one but we sent off a 64-8 so they should appear on our agent list shortly.

I have no idea how you will match up 25 except the VAT ones have VATreg in the email and the SA ones have taxreg. I expect they will just contact you if they need more info and will say the name of the client.

Thanks Matrix. Regarding VAT you are right. The email confirming the vat number has an acknowledgment number which is again different to the original one upon submitting the form, however it has the name of the business on it. God knows what is going on again.
