HMRC services unavailable between 23-26 June

Many of you may already know about this, but just in case...

Didn't find your answer?

This from my old muckers at ICAEW Insights: "Several HMRC services will be unavailable from Friday 23 June to Monday 26 June 2023. This will affect some online services available to taxpayers and agents, as well as HMRC contact centre staff."

For full details here's the link.

No doubt, JH will claim that this is a good thing and will help taxpayers!

... aah, that'll be why almost as many "unconnected services are also unavailable during this period"!

These other major services, that are independent of this change but will also be unavailable, include:
- Agent Services Account
- VAT registration and VAT submission
- and of course MTD for income tax self assessment
... but then there's usually been downtime for one or more large systems every week, for quite some time now!

"This coming weekend, HMRC is moving one of its largest systems, the national insurance and PAYE service (NPS), to a cloud platform."

Anybody else have a strong sense of foreboding?

Mixing loads of electrical systems + clouds = high chance of thunder & lightning?

What I'd really like to know (given the Harra mantra of "it'll work first time won't it?") is ... what are the contingency plans and budgets (not just for the attempted transfer but for the effort of investigating/resolving all the problem data that will crawl out of the woodwork over the next 2+ years)?

*Anyone* else would have put that at the top of the list before approving the attempt, but based on current evidence Harra would see it as 'being negative'!

[***], I do a fair bit of work at the "weekend" as my wife works in social care so our time out is often mid-week

Yes, the Gov Gateway seems to have been down since around 4.30pm. I had hoped to file my payrolls this evening in case the changes created problems filing.

Seems like HMRC have pre-empted my move. Jim Harra thinks of everything!

Going down a bumpy hillside on his magic mat
Flying across the country and getting fat
Saying everything is groovy when his tyres are flat"

Just tried filing 23 x FPSs, due tomorrow so thought I'd get ahead of the game.

Guess what, nothing going through!

No doubt HMRC will record all 23 as defaults!

We've seen (very unusual) long delays on RTI submissions since yesterday am - and again by end of day yesterday (Thurs) they are not going through.

HOWEVER - just did one and FPS went straight through - yesterdays are "stuck" in some kind of limbo - so can't re-submit them as they never received a failure from the RTI.

Anyone else seeing the same?

*edit* - It's good job PAYE/RTI aren't on the list of affected services. Oh wait, it talks to NPS...

Yes, pretty much a similar story here. I sent a self-assessment tax and an RTI FPS between 4.30 & 4.35pm yesterday (June 22nd). The RTI was finally processed at 23.57pm on June 22nd and the SATR was processed at 4.30am on June 23rd.

I thought I would chance it and send another payroll RTI FPS this morning (at 9.30am) and guess what, no response.

My payrolls all fall due on the 25th of each month so this is really frustrating. The Government Gateway has been really hit and miss this week.

Just when you think HMRC can't find anymore ways to make our lives uncomfortable...............

RTI FPS service seems to be back up and running at the moment (for those keen on getting their payrolls sent on time). The returns are showing as "accepted" (on Moneysoft) although the confirmation emails from HMRC are taking an age to arrive still.

We saw more delays and failures than usual yesterday, the 22nd...maybe they started early?
The service is so flaky, it's hard to tell whether its a planned issue or just the norm.

That's what I like to see ... putting your mistrust/disbelief in the pronouncements of HMRC into practical context, so you've been able to stick to your (not their) plans.

Let's hope you didn't actually submit to phishing sites whilst HMRC's systems were supposedly down ... which is when I'd time it if I were a hacker! :=)

Me too, I filed a tax return on Saturday and it was the first one in a while that sailed through without the usual delay.
