Trying to use HMRC agent website, but everything I try to see results in an error message. After an extraordinary long wait I got through to HMRC online helpdesk who said their agent website is down for system maintenance! The lady I spoke to said it was down when she came in at 8am and no information on if it was planned maintenance or a fault or when it might come back online.
One wonders if HMRC have heard of the self-assessment deadline?

Been trying since 7.30 this morning.
The last time I tried the logging off procedure came up with the 'what do you think of the service' box ticking exercise.
Needless to say it wasn't a great response and I had some written input toward the end.
We all know it goes down of on a regular basis, but January please .....
You cannot rely on what HMRC say as most of the time it seems that they do not know what is going on themselves.

They hate us.........but it is OK, when MTD comes in people won't need accountants...............................
Frustrating or what?!! We're not working Saturdays and Sundays for our health HMRC - get your act together!! Grrr!
Talk about getting wound up. At this time of year. I just want to get the SA's done and filed. Not keep returning to see when they have been accepted. Got better things I could be doing.
Everything's broken today folks!
I responded to a tweet by Radio 4's Paul Lewis (fortunately under my personal twitter account) and he re-tweeted me and my phone has been pinging with likes ever since. Only thing that's putting a smile on the staffs faces today!
Have to say in all the years of HMRC being online I can never remember such a shambles as today.....
IR35 causing the top IT contractors to leave the public sector in droves to blame for this?!?!
I'm trying to file a VAT return today & it's still down for this. I've now tried 6 times so far and am giving up, might try again tomorrow - hopefully HMRC will pay their computer bods to work overtime and get it sorted.
Absolutely farcical!

Back on now (for me anyway)
Submissions made from home!
No electronic digital link between accounting records and HMRC portal required. Just the relevant information taken home on paper.
Yes me too! Got an acknowledgement email regarding a submission we made on Sage earlier on in the day at 16.45 but still couldn't access my agent account at that time but I can now! This really isn't good enough - every year we're expected to put up with this farce!
