HMRC time to pay arrangement

Seems agents can no longer set these up for clients

Didn't find your answer?

Client has poas for first time this Jan and will not have sufficient funds to pay whole bill I contacted HMRC for client but was told I could not set up time to pay agreement for client, they had to do it themselves. Client rang and was told to ring back on 31st Jan to set whole thing up.  Seems unhelpful, client now worried they won’t be able to get through etc, instead of being able to relax a bit knowing what debt payment schedule they will have.  Why the single day on which to process this?

I'd give them another call - my standard action when I don't get the right answer the first time around.

And don't just call them, call with a plan of how much you can pay, and when. Then start paying it... They may not agree, but by the time they have taken it further you will already be reducing the debt

Don't forget that up to 13 January 2018 tax can be paid by credit card. HMRC used to push the credit card option in preference to time to pay. This may determine when your client rings back or maybe uses their credit card in the meantime.

Just makes me smile (wryly) when they insist on calling taxpayers ‘customers ‘. Funny way to treat a customer.

It might be worth looking at this page as your client can get some free templates https://www.companyrescue.co.uk/your-options/hmrc-time-to-pay-arrangemen...
