Specifically what type of work are you after?
How long have you been going?
How many clients have you got?
What you are doing now for advertising?
What is working for you?
What is not working?

What are you thinking of doing?

Give us some clues and we might be able to help!

Before I respond, can you please let me know a little bit more about who you are?

You aren't going to get much help with responses like that. Cheeky and rude.

It starts with who you want to work for and what work you want to do. Don't say you'll work for anyone. Prospects will just beat you down on price. Look for where your ideal prospect hangs out. It might be Facebook, Linked In, or somewhere else.
Personally, I only want to work for intelligent businesslike people and would rule out the hopeless types (nevertheless have had a few of these!). So my fees are a bit higher than many other accountants and I look for clients by networking, connecting on LinkedIn and writing posts that literate people might read. I am at long last getting some good clients from my Xero listing. (well 3 in the last 2 years). But I've got a very large client who takes up a lot of time so currently don't need droves of people.
If you need to go much faster than this look for a BNI group to join.
So much depends on what you personally want and need.
It can be very tough in the first 3 years so if you can get a bit of eg subcontracting work to tide you over that might be the key.
There's lots of marketing advice on Linked In.

Word of Mouth worked for me.

Do a good job for each client at a sensible price. Tell them that you are looking for additional clients.

Networking is a good way to generate leads, it may take a while but it worked for me.
Advertising does not work well for accountants, people almost always go by word of mouth.

I guess the leads you really want will need to fit certain criteria. In other words, you may not really want leads to people who simply want their self assessment tax returns done for £100 a time or maybe you do.

The clearer you can be as regards the leads you want, the easier it will be to identify how best to generate them.

Getting the right leads is, as I'm sure you know, only the first step in the process of winning new clients - ahead of then serving them and doing the work they need you to do for them.

Here's a blog post I wrote a couple of years back that you may find helpful: https://bookmarklee.co.uk/4-things-to-change-if-you-dont-get-good-value-...

ditto what John Wheeley says, worked for me a treat, I have built up from start to over 100 clients and no marketing budget.

You won't get the "best leads". They will go to the "big 4" or "top 10".

You may, however, get the crumbs which fall your way. Some will be big crumbs, others will be smaller crumbs. Rarely, you may end up with a nugget of gold. But more often than not, you will end up with some scummy dross.

Turn the scummy dross away as soon as you are financially able to.

What works for us

1. LinkedIn
2. Targeted Direct Mailing
3. Asking existing clients actively for referrals
4. Google Ads/Website

Next we are going to extend into Facebook and Instagram and start doing targeted email campaigns.
