How good is Project Costing in Sage?

How good is Project Costing in Sage?

Didn't find your answer?

Sage introduced Project Costing into Line 50 a few years back (I think it was only in Accountant Professional and Financial controller, version 11 onward).

I'm planning to do a tutorial on Project Costing but hitting a few difficulties. Sage don't seem to have integrated Project Costing with the existing data files. For example neither Project Code nor Cost centre are included in the Financials or Audit_Journal data table.

Has anyone any opinions on the Project Costing reports in Sage, or tried exporting project data into Excel and using it there? Thanks in advance.

Data can be linked
David

If you are trying to build some additional project cost reports, then you need to be using either Sage 50 2007 or Sage 50 2008.
These 2 versions introduced the join table facility into the Report Designer module. Which, providing there is a unique field in common betweeen the two tables then a new relationship can be formed.
The relationships from project costing to financials are through the Audit_split table rather than Audit-journals.
Audit_split contain the transaction number - which is the Audit_Trail_ID in the Project Tran table.
I haven't done it, but in theory the Audit_split table can be joined to the Audit_Journal and the Nominal_Ledger tables via the Nominal code.
Good luck!

can't get it all together
Thanks Mike
I've followed your instructions and it works. Only problem is that I can't combine the audit trail-type transactions (e.g. purchase invoices) with the "project-only" type transactions (e.g timesheets). Has to be two separate reports.

There's a nice report in Sage called Project Audit, but when I try to export it into Excel via CSV, all the columns come over mixed up. You can't think of a solution for this, by any chance?

Prject cost reporting
Hi David

I can understand why project only costs are stored in a separate module - as they don't hit the nominal and therefore are not audit trail transactions.
Do you mean the Project Audit Trail report? This I have no problem exporting as a .csv.
If it's not that one can you give me the .report filename?
Perhaps we can continue this off-line - can we email directly?

Mike
