How Hard Should I Chase this Debt?

Client Has GBH Conviction :-(

Didn't find your answer?

Client owes me around £300 for final tax return and accounts. He has moved to a new accountant (thank goodness). So far he us refusing to pay me the £300.

A few years ago, while doing his accounts, a letter from the police dropped from his accounts papers onto the floor. The police letter mentioned the client's GBH conviction.

I know from a close relative of the client that client is not averse to turning people upside down and shaking them violently. He is MASSIVE!

I do not mind being turned upside down, but it is the violent shaking which concerns me more than a little.

Should I just forget the £300 or send in those tough bailiffs. I think it would take around six burly bailiffs to turn this client upside down!

P.S. I am too young to die!

Don't waste any more of your valuable time on this. Just use one of the well known online solicitors to issue a Letter before Action and if needed follow up via the small claims court......and keep the doors locked!

Id be less concerned about the £300 than the fact you are filing without being paid. Its your only real hold over the client.

I would just let the new accountant know he has not paid for your work, and you are reaaaaaaaaaaaalllly busy right now doing small claims court paperwork to respond to the clearance, but if you don't need to do that, you will be able to send the stuff over in the next half hour. I am sure they will get the heavy hint.

From growing up around people like that, I would suggest people who think with their fists dont tend to lamp people collecting debts, and rarely professional types. They are more likely to go and batter a random in the pub, with his mrs squawking "leave 'im, eees not worth it Darren"

Slap a Thomas Higgins letter on him they only cost £3.60 and it may prompt him to pay unless he wants a CCJ to go with GBH charge.

People like him only respect you if they stand up to them.

I had a similar situation. Filed a small claims court for £350. He’s been badmouthing me but won’t do anything. Don’t let the bully win!
