How long does HMRC take to deal with P55

Ballpark time client should wait needed

Sent off form P55 at end of May for client who took a big lump sum from his pension.   I advised client 6 weeks minimum wait. Is that reasonable or is HMRC being much slower these days?  Took several months to get R40s processed last year but HMRC did write & say there was a glitch.

The best thing to do would be to call HMRC and ask them.

I find that if you phone HMRC they just repeat what their online tool for response times tells you. It is helpful to know if that time - it says 7 weeks at the moment - is being achieved.

The last time I called for something similar, they said the letter was received on xxx date and they were currently working post from xxx date so it should be xxx weeks.
