How long to process a 64/8 for Self-Assessment

Does anyone happen to know roughly how long HMRC take to process 64/8 forms (for Self-Assessment)?

Specifically: from the time I post it to the time I see them in my client list.

Why do you not use the online authorisation, or is it that you are registering for other HMRC Services that have to be done by post?

If you set up the SA authorisation electronically from your agent account my recent experience has been that the client has the letter and code within 10 days (often less) and once they pass the code on and you enter it the client appears on your list overnight

Thanks - I normally use the online route, but occasionally the online system does not like the UTR and postcode combination so I have no option but to do a paper authorisation.

I think you should also try registering online as I read something recently stating that we won't be able to do something or other (sorry, can't remember what) if we are not authorised electronically.

I have tried online but computer says no, hence the paper form. I was just wondering how long it takes.

I have had HMRC reject a paper 64-8 before as the address didn't match their records.
When I couldn't register online since, I have had the client phone HMRC with the latest address and then I've done the online process.

it took 4 weeks for me when i actually checked last time. But it can vary wildly to how busy they are and if they actually process (i had to send in 3 once as they kept saying they hadnt received it.

I posted one on 19th October and another on the 21st October. Neither are showing up in my client list yet. Quite infuriating.
