How to do a tax agent business incorporation

I am a sole trader accountant and tax agent. I now want to incorporate a Limited company.

Didn't find your answer?

Hi, I am looking into incorporating my sole trader accountancy and tax services business. I have a sole trader's agent HMRC online account, wiht one Gateway User ID, I have the sole trader's HMRC Agent Services Account with another Gateway User ID. I have a high number of clients for Self-Assessment, VAT, Payroll, Corporation Tax, Companies House.

Once I et up the Limited compamy, how can it take over the soel trader's HMRC accounts?

Has anyone done it? Please, help!

I'm not sure if hmrc would transfer them all over. You'd probably need to re authorise them all.

However there is another way.

You could grant access to the sole trader agent login under team access.

We did this some years ago for myself and my business partner who both of us had agent accounts but the client list was under her account.

Once you've granted access you can move all the clients to your new team member.

As for the ASA account. Don't think there's a similar way. Youd prob need a new one.

You need new application for mlr, new agent codes, new gateway. It was an awful experience in our case.

You really have to be on a ball and constantly keep following up with Edinburgh mlr unit to ensure that you're not locked out from regular RTI, vat and other submissions

You used to be able to transfer them all over in one block.

The "agent maintainer" was the person to speak to.

Id try technical services.

Thanks all - I have tried to contact technical agents, one said I just needed to write a letter to the Agent Maintainance team - which I've done. Another said I would need new codes for everything.
It does seem like there is a lack of knowledge/guidance for this...
Thank you!

If it's any help I got all mine moved en bloc when I set up a Ltd Co in 2015, with a single letter to Agent Maintainer, within 2 weeks! One thing to watch for if they do it for you, PAYE and VAT will still be under sole trader, it's only SA and CT that gets updated. Getting to change VAT was an absolute nightmare and was only resolved when MTD was linked to the Company and updated the VAT details.
