EU Elections

Didn't find your answer?

Search AccountingWEB

What has happened to responses since 26 April re EU Elections? My response shows on my account but not in the main body. There are several more missing.

SIFT - is this censorship?

The problem is almost certainly at your end. I can at present see 167 responses... Retired Dave seems to have hit a nerve, in raising the matter.

When you do update, you'll have the advantage of seeing it all in one read. Those of us who have been following live (or closer to live anyway) have had to endure Aweb' s formatting issues. I think I've missed quite a few sub-threads.

Wilson started a new thread on that issue.

Assuming that it isn’t missing, try hitting the “view all 167 replies” button which should be visible below the comment that you refer to.

I don't think it is censorship. I gave up trying to engage with the debate because I find it time consuming to follow threads on long "answers".

It is quite easy for things to be difficult to find (I also get the response that requires an extra click to get all the items on a page).

From a systems perspective it would be helpful to have an option which simply displayed all of the thread rather than doing it by pages and included all of the comments. Then the browser could be used to navigate.

I'd had that very thought.

When the thread goes over a page break, the links to comments take you to the right page, but not to the relevant comment. It's possible to find the comment by selecting view all comments then searching, but it's a phaff.

The format of AWEB is clearly designed for viewing on a mobile phone which suggests a Social Media type of approach where it is engineered for a topic or article to have a very limited life, before people move on and forget it.

It is a great shame really as there are many interesting articles and topics that could be viewed at a later date if they could be found.

I have never viewed AWEB on a phone and never will, so I would very much favour a more conventional forum format where the valuable information in AWEB could be accessed and viewed more readily over a long period of time.

Since you've not viewed Aweb on a phone, and never will, I presume you are therefore unaware just how bad it is on a phone, so allow me to put your mind at rest.

AWeb is not optimised for viewing on anything, the phone is just as bad, with the added issues of massive text and links that jump about off the screen making it nigh on impossible to navigate properly without missing things. It's only really properly usable on threads with 6 or less replies.

Maybe somewhere out there there's a device on which all the design decisions for the forums make sense but it's not a PC or an iPhone running either Safari or Chrome, I can confirm that much. Maybe I'll have a bash on the Wii and see if that's any better.

Could some kindly soul please help an old man out. Despite logging out and back in, searching and fiddling with "digest frequency" and generally getting frustrated I still cannot find content on the original thread after that from Kaylee100 on 26 April.
Perhaps replies after that one might be reposted on a new thread???

I too remember the good old days when threads were simple to follow - I use pc only - I would not attempt it on a 'phone!
