I have to amend the 5th November return - I should have picked up the error in December but didn't - idiot!
I phoned HMRC but they no longer amend entries and insist my software has to re-submit. My software won't and produces a NIL return; my software provider doesn't have an answer at present - I just need to sort it before the end of the tax year! I need to reverse out an entry but my software won't accept negatives (I was thinking of crediting out this month)
I looked at the online account and might be able to resubmit and that would "overwrite" the previous return but as I don't use that system normally I would have to input all the subbies - loads of them - and verfiy them all by the looks of things -eergh
Any ideas? - Euan????

What software are you using? I use BrightPay, which includes CIS, and in situations where an amended return is needed, I simply go back to the original month, re-open the payment or payments as required, amend the amounts to the correct amounts, finalise and re-submit.
As HMRC no longer amend CIS Returns themselves, but give the facility to do so whether using their online filing or software, I would have thought that your software ought to be able to amend a return without too much drama.
I can't amend a CIS300
I can on Moneysoft, in the same way as for BrightPay. As Compact WinAccs for construction has no way of submitting amended CIS300 returns, I can only suggest that you change your software? Yes - you would have to re-enter the details of your sub-contractors once (no need to re-verify), but as CIS300 returns are not cumulative, there is no history to input.
I've recently submitted amendments for a client back to October 2018, resulting in additional CIS tax to pay with no penalty being charged.
