I hate that my first Q is re MTD!

Can I live with myself?!

Didn't find your answer?

Firstly, to confirm that I understand correctly. MTD for VAT is mandated for un/incorporated businesses exceeding the £85,000 VAT threshold for accounting periods beginning on or after 1 April 2019. Is this now set in stone?

My real question: Year-end is 28 Feb and client using VAT Annual Accounting (aligned with year-end). Does that mean they don't need to join MTDfV until 1 March 2020?

Hi Clark,

the answer is no one actually knows.

Probably a 50%+ chance it wont happen.

Assuming it does, I would say your dates are correct.

Under the current arrangements, you would join from 1 June 2019.

Whether the current arrangements are still current in 14 months time is open to doubt.

Thanks. So I’m not the only one clear as mud on this. I think it comes down to - is it the first quarter starting after 1 April 2019 (making lion right)? Or first VAT period making it 1 Mar 2020?

Not easy to advise, and maintain credibility, is it!

Don't forget that we have changes as a result of Brexit coming up and the EU are drastically overhauling the way VAT works in the EU as well which we will have to abide by.

Still, not to worry, the MTD complaint software that we will all be forced to use will sort it all out for us, easy peasy.

Logical really, as it will not be MTD compliant for VAT unless it is capable of dealing with ANY VAT scenario.
