Import goods from US to EU from UK? Fulfilment

A client has a UK VAT registered business, imports goods from US.

Didn't find your answer?

A client has a UK VAT registered business, imports goods from US to UK. Then sells items to EU from there - currently all works fine.

Client suggested set up a fulfilment house in Ireland so goods are imported from US to EU and then export from EU to EU effectively. Even though they will be running the business from the UK.

What are the impications? Google throwing up nothing pretty much.

Google should have pointed you to AccountingWeb series 'Brace for Brexit' :)

Your issue is Rules of Origin, importing USA made goods into UK will incur import duty, shipping it again from UK to EU will incur import duty a second time. A stock in Ireland means duty paid once and then free to be shipped across the EU (but not UK). The clients suggestion is the right idea.

This is a matter of VAT, customs duty, incoterms and efficient ways to deal with Brexit, this forum can only go so far, if you can't find solutions on Google, then it may be you need some specialised advice.
