Didn't find your answer?

Just received a mail shot from one of the cheap bucket shop accountants, which claims at the bottom of their letter

"We're ranked No 1 Accounting firm in the UK"

I wonder by what measure/by whom

Well unless they have subtantiated their claim you could report them to the ASA

Provided they can produce some ranking of the UK accountancy firms showing themselves at the top then they're not breaking any rules. They could conduct their own survey within their office and come out on top.

Be a shame if they got some poor reviews on Trust pilot due to all the spam they send out.

Good to know that all 4 employees gave them 5 stars
That is a serious negative.

Online Account Filing?

So it does what it says on the tin. Files Accounts Online.

Sadly, most of my clients needed more than a filing service.

At least they didn't fall victim to the mystery apostrophe of this post's title!

More seriously, the ASA do have the power to demand some quantification of the claim (i.e. ranked by whom, when and on what basis). On the other hand I don't suppose those within this dim-lit, below-the-radar operation give a 4X for ASA rulings.

Give that boy a Mars Bar! The possessive of who is indeed whose. As in Clive Anderson's Whose Line is it Anyway? (with Richard Vranch, no less, on piano).

Who's is a contraction of (inter alia) who is. As in the Rollin' Stones number Who's Driving Your Plane?

It is all in the punctuation, actual words used and their order.

"We are the most rank firm of accountants in the UK, we are ranker than all the others."

And in the diction of a person speaking it (such as on a radio ad), in which case I would want it to sound like Jonathan Woss.

Is that really Victoria Coren doing the QB ad?

Speaking of radio ads there is one for a posh sounding London firm but it is anyone's guess how you would spell it.

By themselves. In the same way I'm the best accountant currently sitting in my chair, but also the worst and everywhere in between.
