Incorporation

HMRC Agent Authorisation

Didn't find your answer?

Do I have to apply for new agent status with HMRC when I incorporate?  Is it possible to write to HMRC and request transfer of authorisation from sole trader to limited company of which I will be the sole director and shareholder of?  Guidance in this area will hugely appreciated

100% easier just to fill in the 64-8.

Besides, a company is a different entity to the individual - how can it be OK to transfer the agency ?

It worked for me when I changed to Ltd more than 4 years ago. I wrote to Agent Authorisation Team as suggested by Jo upthread and they moved it over

One drawback is that they didn't change VAT or PAYE, so that would need to be done separately

In fairness, I should qualify that by saying that it depends how many clients need to be transferred.

I have no idea where this has come from, you must have misunderstood the question which is perfectly reasonable.

Anonymous. Understandable. I’d be embarrassed too.

I don’t understand what the problem is with the question?

I agree it should not be anonymous but why wouldn’t you try and transfer all your clients with you when you incorporate? Why would you get new 64-8s for each client if you don’t have to?

We have been told that we have to set up a new account and move everyone over getting new 64-8s, tried to do a bulk movement via CAA Team but they wouldn't do it. If anyone has had recent success doing this - let me know as we would prefer to go back to HMRC than to make clients do everything over again.
