IRIS SOFTWARE-DONT GO TICKING BOXES

IRIS SOFTWARE-DONT GO TICKING BOXES

Didn't find your answer?

Like alot of people from time to time we review our own costs we started  with IRIS back in the days when there wasnt a lot of competition and we needed to cope with the advent of  S/A after a while you read the blogs and realise that my £3200.00 costs could be cut to £800.00 to £1000.00 for comparartive systems.

So we ring IRIS how long do we have to give notice we are told by one operator 42 days our associate practice makes the same call to be told 90 days i call again to be told 90 days so we e-mail them giving the notice period ..............i get no response i then chase them up to then be told that my contract doesnt expire until March 2012 because and i quote:.

The new terms and conditions were introduced a while ago to all customers and were put into the updates. It asks if you have read and agree to the terms and conditions and asks you to actively tick the box to do so.

The orginal contract that i actually signed says 30 days not 90 and certainly not 6 months.

So a word of warning if  you are thinking of leaving dont go ticking any boxes..

Not sure where you stand when you down load an update ????

Similar with Drummohr tax assistant

This is the same with Drummohr (owned by IRIS). I received an emil towards the end of October stating there new terms in connection with "automated renewal of licences" and the FACT that you have to inform then 90 days before the end of the licence date otherwise you must automatically renew for another 12 months. When I challenged this I was told it only affects new licences that will take affect on the next renewal.

So it appears that IRIS is trying to do as much as possible accross their software to stop people changing software.

PIRATES

Been through the same process with IRIS. Postponed deciding to leave IRIS but left > 90 days, notified them and told I would be called back to see if they could "help." Instead received an e-mail informing me that I could not leave until August 2012. Presently battling the position out with them. I am now decided; I do not wish to have any connection to a firm that behaves like this and shall leave them asap.

.

Its really is a very poor and short sighted business practice isn't it?

Personally I would give notice, stop paying and let them take you to court for non-payment.

And in the very unlikely even that they do chose to do so, make sure it was well covered in the accounting press.

I find bad publicity is very good for making such restrictive business terms go away.

Edited to add: this sort of behaviour is why I refuse to deal with SAGE (that and the shoddy products)

I think as somebody said it is sharp practice perhaps we need some lawyers on this forum to tell us wether it is legal !

Drummohr

I wept when Drummohr was taken over by Iris.  Having been so badly treated by Iris over the debacle of their payroll software and on line filing my views on Iris are very low - I'll simplify them to "extremely unprofessional", but face to face my comments would be more harsh!

And don't get me started on Keytime and their takeover of Compac accounts production - a nice simple product butchered beyond belief.

Years ago I was forced to pay Taxsoft for software that didn't work, back in the days of the first year of SA.  I didn't enjoy staring down the barrel off a gun, and I was a lot more innocent then.  Now if Iris/Drummohr try those tricks then  I'd fight them - I think there is precedent to suggest that if a material change like that is not explicitly highlighted then it fails under contract law.  I'd be happy to chance my luck in the small claims court - ask for  the case to be transferred to my local court as they are bigger than me...

That's why I left Drummohr when IRIS bought them

I'd been a happy user of Drummohr for many years but changed to Taxcalc when they were taken over by IRIS in anticipation of exactly this kind of thing.  I'll also do the same if Moneysoft or VT were ever taken over by the likes of Sage or IRIS.  I'm too long in the tooth to believe what they say when the big firms claim that they'll make no changes other than improvements.  I've been there and got the T shirt with TAS (taken over by Sage), MYOB (taken over by Mamut).  When I left Drummohr, the IRIS people pestered me for months asking why I'd not renewed and simply wouldn't listen when I told them I simply didn't trust IRIS.  Glad to know I've been proved right again.
