Depending on where i look i seem to be getting different answers on this one?
Can someone please clarify - should a church be treated as a charity when claiming charitable donations relief?

If C of E church then presumably the donation is to the Parochial Church Council which runs the church/parish. These are generally charities though often are Excepted from registration with the Charity Commission, unless they have been required to register due to income exceeding £100k, so you may not be able to find a Charity registration number.

The individual could ask a relevant person at the church whether or not donations qualify for Gift Aid and for any relevant information
It's easier to ask the church treasurer/trustees if they are registered charity for giftaid and you can ask them for the reg number if you are the acting accountant. see list of excepted charities https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/excepted-charities/excepted-c...
if they do not belong to such denomination, they will have to register , so seek clearance from the trustee/treasurer they have a duty to keep records
