Is anyone else getting duplicate MTD VAT periods?

I wonder if anyone else is having clients which have more than one period with the same dates.

For the obligation period 1/8-31/10 I have a client who has both a numeric period key for that period and an alphanumeric period key.  This appears to me to be some form of systemic issue and I am wondering if anyone else has encountered this.  I have raised it with HMRC.

Yes, we have had several users with this problem today including ourselves! Either a return showing as outstanding twice or a submitted return also showing as outstanding. Also the same if you sign into your business taxes account on HMRC's web site.

The first user who reported this was told by HMRC that it was a fault with VT! HMRC are now accepting responsibility.

HMRC are accepting responsibility they have responded to me now.

What has happened is that there are two obligations for the same date. One has a numeric period key (normally 1019) and one has an alphanumeric period key (19A3).

My guess is that they are trying to convert from numeric period keys to alphanumeric period keys and have created duplicate obligations as a result.

I would not be surprised if submitting against the alphanumeric key works, but submitting against the numeric key does not.

We have done a bit of experimentation and find that HMRC will accept the alphanumeric period key, but not accept the numeric period key.

In our example the alphanumeric item was the last one. If anyone needs help finding out which is the alphanumeric item I can help with a diagnostic run (email [email protected])

HMRC did fix it late on Wednesday, but I was not clear whether that might affect looking up previous vat returns so I have asked them and as far as I can tell this should work now.
