Is course fee tax deductible for sole trader?

Is course fee which relates wholly to the trade, tax deductible?

I'd like to confirm whether a course fee for a gardener is tax deductible. I'd also like to find out if medical costs are ever tax deductible? The cost relates to treatment for a back injury which occurred when working. Thank you.

1. Yes - if it's a course about gardening.

2. Probably not - but good luck claiming it.

When dI’d the gardener commence trading, and when was the course taken?

The answer to the medical question is that it depends.

You have left a lot to be desired in your brief question. It’s usually better to post as much information you can to enable people to answer more accurately.

The cost of the initial training is not tax deductible unfortunately but training costs to maintain competency and to attain further advancement within the profession are I believe.

I would also think medical costs are not tax deductible as they would be required whether you were working or not. So aren't wholly and exclusively for the job. Similar to eye tests and spectacle purchases. (apart from safety glasses).

You could be wrong on both counts. You could also be correct on both counts.

Best that we wait for the OP to stick some effort in and provide us with information?

Why do questioners continue with half-arsed questions?

The questioner could also have been less friggin’ lazy - HMRC provide easily found clear guidance on their own views as well as references to relevant case law.

I’ve searched a great deal but couldn’t find anything definitive. Could you share where to find this information please?

The thing about being a gardener is that you can do a bit of weeding, then you're started trading. Anything after that is allowable.

Bit like being an accountant, really. Bit of bookkeeping and you're up and running.
