IXBRL CT600 duplicate value error

Didn't find your answer?

Hello,

I have prepared accounts for the first year for my new client and entered opening balances for the previous year plus comparatives for last year. Now I am trying to file CT600, but there are 2 errors in IXBRL: uk tag core duplicate value for stock & equity. I believe it has something to do with the tagging. I have looked everywhere and can’t find error. Previous accountant was using different descriptions. The equipments was just as tangible asset but was no description of what it was. I used equipment cost b/f in opening balances,. Does anyone have an idea where can I check for errors and how to amend it? HMRC refused to accept my CT600 due to those errors. Thank you in advance

Although Tim gives the obvious answer I would add that

iXBRL is a form of XHTML which is really a form of picky HTML.

If you find the iXBRL file (and are using windows) you should be able to open this file in Notepad and look at what is in it. (Other operating systems will have an equivalent piece of software)

The error means that one of the ix tags is duplicated.

Tags are things like <TAG>

The iXBRL tags that matter tend to start with <IX

It sounds like you might have one of those in the file twice (or more times). If in looking at the file you see this you may be able to guess why this is happening. (However, see the viewer later in this post)

However, keytime support should be your first port of call really.

This validator might help:
https://ewf.companieshouse.gov.uk/xbrl_validator

If you put the raw code (what you see when you look at it in notepad) into this:
https://codebeautify.org/xmlviewer

It may be more obvious what is going wrong. XML is not that readable in the raw.

We have just had something similar (although on Taxcalc). It turns out that for the fixed assets PY figures we hadn’t split CY & b/f deprecation, so the PY P&L didn’t match. PY deprecation isn’t split in the FA note, so I didn’t realise this would be an issue, but apparently it was.

Maybe you have something similar?

If your carried forward and brought forward balances don't agree in CY and PY then you'll have two different values represented by the same XBRL tag.

Could even be a rounding error?

The error message might say what is causing the tagging issue. VT includes a tool called the Fact Viewer that is also very useful for diagnosing issues with XBRL accounts.
