Job retension scheme

"You are not eligible for the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme" HMRC message

Didn't find your answer?

Normal payroll, been done for years, 1 employee on 26K wage, but when we try to claim the JRS HMRC website comes up with this error message: "You are not eligible for the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme"

Rung the Covid 19 helpline (employers helpline is closed) and after being promoted to second level technical support they couldnt give me an answer, currently waiting for someone to ring me back sometime this week!

Anyone else had this problem? And anyone have a solution?

Freudian slip with the title of the question, typo or deliberate?

We had one of these.

First advisor on the 0800 number said it was listed as an 'XP' scheme. She didn't know what that meant. Google did. It means a Contractor only payroll. https://www.gov.uk/hmrc-internal-manuals/paye-manual/paye20166

Level 2 advisor rang back on Friday and said nothing she could do, we would have to speak to PAYE (who are you then I cried to no avail). She was very unhelpful, though that's the first time anyone at HMRC has been like that since this began.

So we rang PAYE this morning at 8am - got through at 08:25 and advisor duly converted the scheme - she had to go back to the original RTi date so have this to hand if this is your problem.

We now have to wait the obligatory 72 hours before we can try the furlough claim. Fingers crossed.

Ughh! Rang employers helpline, got through in about 1 minute which I was mightily impressed by. The guy I spoke to didnt know the answer and said he couldn't transfer me to anyone at the moment. Not so impressed.

Any progress?

I rang the employers helpline this morning and got the XP marker removed - they advised waiting 72 hours before trying the CJRS again. Will report back over the weekend.

XP marker removed on 12 May, still can't submit a CJRS claim. Need to steel myself to call the helpline again - never did get a callback from our first call on 4 May...

Is this an annual scheme or do you make monthly submissions

If that was directed at me, monthly, two employees. Paye scheme active since 2017 but he has been a contractor for 10+ years.

I also have this problem. Client is contractor as well as having PAYE so I guess that's the problem. I'll try and call them tomorrow. Anyone had any luck putting a claim in yet?

Yes, get in - mine is finally fixed and CJRS claim submitted successfully. Took more than 72 hours but worth the wait.
