Boring Aweb

Didn't find your answer?

Search AccountingWEB

Perusing aweb this evening from the porcelain throne as is often my habit.

It struck me that it has been an age since I last read a thread on a particular point of tax that struck up a decent debate or even a series of put downs. It's all crap now.

Is there now another forum that's taken this space and if so where is it? Bored.

Must be everyone enjoying the decent weather?

Still, I get where you are coming from,

In terms of the more technical posters, Portia and Cheeky are banned. The likes of Steve Kesby, Shaun King and Fawlty seem to visit less often than they used to.

Now the anonymous idiots flood the forum with their crap, followed by them deleting their threads and comments after receiving answers.

You also have members that made it a community that no longer comment or have deleted their accounts such as Old Greying Accountant, ShirleyM, Flash, Andy Partridge, Mouse etc.

It's of no surprise none of the past regulars no longer return, or only visit rarely given the state of the site and Sift's reluctance to do any tangible changes.

Well, just think yourself lucky that Bob has decided to show his face again.

Mind you with @ireallyshould... pitching in I think he might disappear under his rock pretty soon...

But everyone knows that you are LWB / WD. You just haven't been banned yet.

[/quote) I was just stating an observation, no need to get tetchy mrme89. Who is this WD you are talking about?

I do agree with mrme89 above, as regards the anonymous enquiries. As a matter of principle, I think I'm going to ignore those posts in future.

Although the site still has a great foundation (it's a very simple tool for professional debate) and, I do appreciate that the UK team will be very constrained in what they can do, it would be nice, if just occasionally, we had some constructive updates, as to where the future lies and, what further adjustments are likely. I think that the last time I saw any constructive comments was when John made his famous apology, across the New year period.

All well and good but we've suffered and sustained some seriously thick (predominantly anonymous) enquiries on here, which really does beg the question whether the profession is on a permanent downward spiral?

A forum is only as good as its contributors.

Correct me if I'm wrong but, didn't CD/WD pass away?

Of course, characters come and go, just as they do in life. However, whether you appreciate their comments, or not, you can't say that they don't add to the "spice of life".

I'm quite convinced that, in the next twenty years or so, the banter and humorous way of life, which I grew up with and, have thoroughly enjoyed, will be in the dim and distant past. I sincerely hope not, having built a practice on; having a jolly good laugh with my client's when the opportunity has warranted it, having time to listen to them and, in addition, having a genuine enjoyment of providing service.

So, where is he?

If he's not in his box at the Emirates, he'll be at home in Derby typing his latest rant for the Daily Fail. He may even be trying to circumvent AWeb's security measures again as we speak (last seen here on 9 March).

"If he's not in his box at the Emirates"

What, as in Arsenal or, as in deceased?
And yet, he lives in Derby?
I'm truly confused?

The CD/WD I recall, I assumed, lived in the "valleys", was; an accountant and a barrister and, late into the night, looked out for "ladies of the night" in a protective style? Is that the same persona to which you refer?

Perhaps it's just me?

He claimed (and still does claim) to be expert in an extraordinary number of fields - I recall that he was compared on more than one occasion to a certain film character played by Danny Kaye, and later by Ben Stiller.

He may well have looked out for ladies of the night, though I cannot possibly comment on the protective nature of his interest. He used to claim here of being one of Arsenal's biggest fans - despite the fact that yes, he does live in Derby. (Not sure why that should confuse - China is full of Man U supporters.)

You're thinking of Dave, who had a motorcycling accident in Australia, having skidded on some bovine excrement.

I'm not thinking of Dave, at all.

Dave had an erection (some call it a referendum), which he lost and quit being Prime Minister.

Dave, and his pal George (not the odd singer chappie, who ties people to radiators) started to look for work. George was really successful and found six jobs, whereas Dave, not the one who fell in the doo da in Australia, remains workshy.

This is Accounting Web for questions on various subjects which are identifiable in the box above; and not for playing childish playground games.

You clearly have no idea what the new AWeb is for.
