Late filing Co House - Is Covid still an excuse

Do Companies House still accept Covid as an excuse for late filing

Didn't find your answer?

New client has come in and has missed his Accounts filing deadline of end of April.

I know Co House extended deadlines for 3 months last year but I think they have stopped that now. I don't really think Covid should be an excuse not least because the client did receive a reminder from Companies House. The Accounts are very straightforward (3 hours work maximum).

Just wondered if Co House will still accept Covid as an excuse if the client appealed against the penalty once the Accounts are filed?

No idea about the penalty now they are late, but if you'd simply asked they are still granting the three month extension.

But it's not an excuse, is it?

Nine months is plenty of time, especially if accounts are as simple as you say. No simpathy for client

sounds like client was in a coma for a very long time ..but doubt it was due to a virus

Good luck with your appeal, though it's doomed to failure.

Totally agree I don't think its a reasonable excuse either just wanted to check if Companies House were still being lenient. He had already missed the deadline when he came in to see us so not alot we could do

I may be wrong here (its not unknown) but I thought you still got the extra 3 months for April 2020 year-ends without requesting an extension.

For May 2020 year-ends the deadline has reverted back to 9 months after the previous year-end date but April 2020 show on Companies House as due for filing by April 30th 2021 without requesting an extension.

That said, your client is still late.

Or am I wrongly assuming that your client's year-end date is April 30th (rather than July 31st) 2020?

I believe it was 5th April 2021 deadlines. Why 5th I can't imagine.

No, it's determined by the original deadline date, not the year end. May and June 2020 year ends are extended to May and June 2021 (automatically). Original deadlines post 5/4/21 are not extended. So year ends post 5/7/21 are not extended.
