Late registration for S A

Late registration for S A

I have picked up a client who has as yet not registered for Self Assessment, they let out a block of 6 flats and appear to have been doing so for 3 years, the remainder of their income is through Paye. What would be the most painless way to get them registered and the relevant taxes paid.

Thanks

They have been careless, to say the very least. Someone needs to register them, for self-assessment. That's a fact. Did they imagine that they didn't need to record this financial activity?

You infer that you have picked up a "client" (singular) then, going on to infer "them" (plural)? If the latter is the case, have they joint legal title of the property concerned?

From experience on Aweb, there is often little planning in the ownership of property and, if sufficient information isn't provided, or requested, the situation can become a minefield.

HMRC Let Property Campaign disclosure to clear the back years?

Just found one I've had for a while has a jointly owned let property I've known nothing about "because the spouse took all the rent and had no other income"...DOH! So is that careless and restricted to 6 years (still waiting for more details) or 'stupid' and rather more potentially included? Have asked about any other income each year and answer came there "no" because, of course, the spouse took it
