Low price tax software linked to Excel

I changed from Taxcalc to Taxfiler and miss the simple copying of information

Didn't find your answer?

Can anybody recommend a low price tax package that I can input from Excel please. I find it very frustrating having to type all the figures into Taxfiler from VT software. I am posting this anon because I am sure that I am missing something and feel very foolish asking the question.

Thanks very much for help.

if you are talking about accounts then export TB to excel and paste straight in using the tab under Trial Balance . its simply the easiest thing to do

If the TB is in VT then why are you not using Final accounts to prepare the accounts?

You may be doing what I do for some non-cloud clients; using VT transaction+ to do the bookkeeping but then using Taxfiler for the accounts prep and tax. If so, then in VT transaction+, having prepared the TB, go to Edit > Export trial balance. This uses the clipboard method of exporting the data, so you can then go to Taxfiler, go to TB and click where it says import tb or paste values (I forget the exact terminology).

As stated above, it really is the easiest thing once you know how to do it.

A tip - having pasted the TB into Taxfiler, there will be some accounts which Taxfiler doesn't recognise and it will ask you to map the accounts to the relevant TF chart of accounts. By default, it will map the accounts it recognises, then will ask you to manually map any custom / non-standard accounts. At this stage, I always click the drop-down at the top, and change it from "display accounts that need mapping" to "display all imported accounts" (or words to that effect). It only takes a minute longer and then you can be sure that all your TB accounts have been mapped to where you would like them to be.

If, for example, you later make an adjustment in VT, (usually for corporation tax), you simply paste the new TB entries in, and the software will remember the previously chosen mapping.
Same when you come to import the following years accounts.

*Edit: I see your question asks about exporting figures from Excel to a tax package, therefore rendering my above post of little use, but I've left it up as it may help other users.

If, by Excel, you mean VT final accounts, then simply go to the TB tab, and copy / paste the TB into Taxfiler. That will work.

If you don't want all the blank unused accounts to be posted in, you could add a custom tab called "TB for export" and, using a table, filter out / hide the rows containing zeros.

One of my bugbears with Taxfiler is that it will sometimes map to the wrong category. In particular the sales figure is lower than imported and I find it's deducted (say) a COS item against the sales, so that info is extremely handy, thanks
