Ltd company having problems obtaining bank account

Didn't find your answer?

New client, just incorporated them, the business is online videos of gaming (paid via YouTube).  However they cannot seem to get a bank account due to the company's activities (CH SIC code is 59112 Video production activities) any ideas? They have tried a few online banks now.

A 'traditional' bank?
(if you can find one still open)

Yes I have suggested trying the bank they normally bank with, does seem very odd though.

Maybe it's the director's details that are causing the problem?

The refusal has been on the reason of the company's activities, just seems very odd.

The online challenger banks are generally the easiest to open accounts with but the price of this is that they have certain business types (mainly identified by SIC codes) that they refuse.

The traditional banks are usually indifferent to terrible at opening business accounts but it is possible with them with patience & effort.

I can think of lots of decent bank accounts for a start up business, have you tried:

Starling Bank
Monzo
Natwest Mettle
Tide Bank

I'm very familiar with terms of one of these accounts and can't remember anything in them excluding video production activities. You'll run into issues if you're an arms dealer or adult entertainer but Youtuber should be fine.

They have tried Monzo and Tide, both refused on the companies activities.

I've just looked up Starlings T&Cs and the last page has a list of activities they won't open an account for:

https://www.starlingbank.com/docs/legal/account/Account-Schedule-BCA-Mul...

I've generally had good experiences with Starling and seen accounts opened in as little as 24 hours.

Do you think that Video Production Activities is being interpreted as adult entertainment?

I am wondering that, but at the time that best fitted their activities

That is exactly what I would suggest to a client
