Making Tax Digital HMRC issues

Is my client registered for Making Tax Digital

I'm confused, can someone help. Picked up a Limited Company  Client. Their first MTD Vat return is due 1/4 31/07/19. I applied for authorisation and the client received the code from HMRC. They are now my client for VAT and are shown in my agent account. Prior to this I set up and agent services account and followed the guidelines for transferring them over. When logging in to my agent services account there are no clients shown (I believe this may be correct) but they are still listed in my agent account. When I try to sign my client up for Making Tax Digital it says they already are. (This may be the case). But, how do I submit a return. I am using QBO. I can see nothing in the agent services account that shows how to submit a return.

Removed due to not reading question properly.

The client won’t be listed in your ASA until you have filed an MTD return.

To find out if the client is registered for MTD, go into the client in your usual agent account and click Submit a return, if you are able to submit then they are not signed up, if you get the MTD info screen then you are ready to go after linking your ASA to QB.

When I used the agents API to add a client to an ASA it appeared in the list of unallocated clients. However, an MTD return had previously been submitted for that client, but not using the ASA.

I don't know if it was necessary for some MTD return to have been submitted for a client to appear in the ASA. I don't also think that the Agents API is that sufficiently different to the other ways of adding a client that this should be different.

Well it is different. The only way to see clients is in the Manage account section and they are listed by VAT number when you have filed a return. There is no other info on each client so it is completely different from the usual agent account.

If you are authorised under the 'old way' / letter / VT number you can make them appear in your ASA by going through the authorisation procedure again in the ASA. You go through the screens to get them authorised and it tells you that you are already authroised. Go back to the client list and the VAT number now appears!

I have submitted the first MTD return and in QBO I have a green tick and the message 'accepted by hmrc' and the date and receipt number.

What I don't have is any reference to this (yet) in my agent services account. To confirm in my original agent account as expected I have my client and a past history of filed returns (but no mention of the one I have just filed). In my agent services account I have nothing and no services I can use, even though I 'transferred' all my clients over a few days back. Why is it not shown?

The first question is which credentials did you use to submit the return?

If you get some software that runs the Agents API you can find out if HMRC's computer systems think you are acting for that client in the realm of VAT by supplying the Vat Number and the original date of registration for VAT.

In this bit (of the agents services account):
Manage your account
Allow other users in your organisation to access this agent services account, or restrict their access.

Add a new user
Manage user access to your agent services account

Under the "manage user access to your agent services account" with the "clients" tab on the next page you should see some clients.

Sorry, Credentials? QBO

HMRC have informed I will not see any history in my agent services account of any VAT return submitted under MTD. Because I have linked the software between QBO and HMRC the only 'receipt' I get is the email I received from QBO to say the return had been accepted by HMRC.

When you authorised QBO did you or your client use the ASA credentials or the client gateway credentials?

Thanks for your help John, I followed the link below (post from JoF 24/08/19 23.08) I'd already linked my clients to ASA. I checked and my client was registered for MTD. I was in QBO when I completed steps 4-6

You get the history of submissions from your MTD software. An important point to note is that you have have multiple MTD software that you can use to look up submissions. For example you could look up the submission you have made via QBO on my software or any other software that allows looking up information.

Hence you won't get that from the ASA directly.

From the information you provide, however, it is clear that your client is on your ASA (otherwise it would not have allowed the submission). I am out of my office until Monday, but I can show you how to look up information if you wish after that point. Just email me at [email protected] and I will schedule a call. It should take about 10-15 mins to sort this out.
