Our client who is a uk residence, has recently acquired a holiday rental property in Malta. Understand he will be taxed on his worldwide income. He is British and never lived overseas. Think it is straightforward just declaring his income on his uk tax return. Do we need to do anything else such as obtaining certificate of residence? Any pointers would be appreciated,

Who do you think needs a “certificate of residence” and why?
He needs an adviser in Malta, obviously.
Maybe confusing what a certificate of residence is for.
Think they are used to confirm residence status to a party in another jurisdiction. Potentially relevant if the Double Tax Treaty provides benefits, maybe?
I would get a copy of the Maltese tax return when the time comes so the client can obtain double tax relief for any tax paid in Malta.
If the client is asking for advice now then you will need to speak to a local adviser and look at the tax treaty.
