Microsoft Money

Microsoft Money no longer available

Didn't find your answer?

I have for many years used Microsoft Money Sunset Edition to keep track of my personal expenditure. My laptop is nearing the end of its life, slow running, blue screen crashes etc

On looking to install on a new laptop I find that the Microsoft Download Centre  whilst it lists two versions...see...

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/search.aspx?q=money%20plus%20su...

Both links return "We're sorry, this download is no longer available."

Can anyone suggest a way forward?

There appears to be a product called Microsoft Money Plus Sunset Deluxe which is claimed to be a replacement.

https://download.cnet.com/Microsoft-Money-Plus-Sunset-Deluxe/3000-2057_4...

Personally I would down load all my data into a spreadsheet and look for another product that is supported.

Good spot! I had kept that exe file from years ago and have just sent it to Rose.

Ideally, it would be good to find something newer (and cheap/free!) which is as simple but useful. If anyone has any thoughts, please post.

I've never found a product quite as neat as MS Money, it was great for home finances, you can of course use QB or Xero but that comes with a monthly fee, they really need to do a free/limited version of QB for home finances.

I too have an official MS download for Money and so was going to PM the OP but as you've done it already, thank you.

From Wikipedia ...

Microsoft Money was a personal finance management software program by Microsoft.
It had capabilities for viewing bank account balances, creating budgets, and tracking expenses, among other features.
It was designed for computers using the Microsoft Windows operating system, and versions for Windows Mobile were also available (available for Money 2000-2006 on select versions of Windows Mobile, up to, but not including, Windows Mobile 5.0).
Microsoft developed Money to compete with Quicken, another personal finance management software.

Money is no longer being actively developed as a retail program.
From its inception in 1991 until its discontinuation in 2009, Microsoft Money was commercial software.
Microsoft discontinued sales of the software on June 30, 2009 and removed access to online services for existing Money installations in January 2011.
In 2010, Microsoft released a replacement version, called Microsoft Money Plus Sunset, which allows users to open and edit Money data files, but lacks any online features or support.

In 2012, Money returned as a Windows Store app; however, this version of Money was designed as a news aggregator for personal finance, investing, and real estate.
Other features include stock tracking across the world markets, a mortgage calculator, and a currency converter.
It does not have any of the personal accounting or bookkeeping/money management features of the legacy desktop program.

http://moneymvps.org/downloads/Patches.aspx

You want to scroll down to MS Money 2005 patches, the 2005 version is for UK and this was last patched 2011.

This is not the official MS website, but there are plenty of other places to find it, you need to google "QFE#2 MS Money UK" as this was the official name of the final update.

If you want to go via another route, still unofficial. Visit MoneysavingExpert forum
https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4592559/installing-micro...

At the start of that post there is a link to a blogger Gareth Saunders, click link to visit his blog and in the search box on left hand side type in MS Money, scroll down the search results and there will be a blog entitled MS 2005 download and that takes you to the bloggers Dropbox.

Virus check whatever you download and you do so at your own risk. I also have an official version of this so can PM it over if that is allowed.

Think I still have a copy somewhere. Great little program which also reminded me of Quicken, which I also used. Anyone remember it?

Oh, I see it's still available, and it looks like it's been updated quite considerably

Because Intuit sold it off "in order to focus on the more profitable QuickBooks".
Which raises the different questions:
... why is the only result of so many software acquisitions a bunch of people sitting around saying "Now what?"
... don't purchasers have a plan before investing, or have they earned their bonuses on the back of the 'deal' and treat it as the end-game?

A modern, supported & updated, not free but very cheap equivalent to Microsoft Money is Moneydance. Getting Money files into Moneydance is not trivial but easily possible & well documented.
I like Moneydance a lot!

I love Quicken XG and it appears to have an import facility from Microsoft Money. You can probably pick up a copy for a few pounds on eBay. Apart from online, it works perfectly.

Good to know Quicken XG works. I'm still using Quicken 2001 (deluxe!) under Windows 10 & I think that even now it's one of the most user-friendly pieces of software going.

ty all- a helpful thread. I have used MS money since 1999 and currently run it on win10 with few glitches (sometimes its a bit slow). I've tried out other finance software packs on trial and I am such a Money fan I struggle with anything else. To 'stuck' on Money.
I really wish someone would reinvent MS money as I'm sure it would sell well for people like me who mainly use for family finances. (and a small residential assoc i run)
I was going to buy quicken but i they said i had to upgrade to money sunset delux but no matter how hard i tried i couldnt convert to it as my files weren't compatible.
Personally, I really DREAD the day money no longer works on windows as I have so much data which I do not want to lose- or better still continue using.
If worst comes to worse I'd use Acemoney. i downloaded it yesterday (to test) and it allows you to import XL files from older versions of money.
Has anyone ever tried it?
