Millenium Bug at HMRC?

Millenium Bug at HMRC?

Didn't find your answer?

Just accessed a client record on the HMRC self-assessment service - the interest summary shows several items of interest as "Created Date" 31 Dec 1899!

They have clearly not calculated 110 years' interest, but it does not inspire confidence.

Day zero

The 31st of December 1899 is "day zero" in some computer systems - i.e. dates are represented internally by the number of days which have passed since that date. Therefore blank date fields will sometimes erroneously show as 31/12/1899.

Repayment date
Yes, I actually have a personal tax repayment notification dated in January 1900- and no they didnt calculate interest from that date - mores the pity - it was my own repayment.
