I can not believe how long its taken to sign up my first client and I am now waiting for them to let me know when I can report my client's vat through compatible software... all non chargeable time!

You should probably do something else while you wait, it could be a day or two.

It's massively long winded for Agents. It's better to get the client to do and then send the authorisation note from ASA.

It literally takes less than five minutes, what on earth are you two doing for the rest of the time?

I agree with Duggimon (not withstanding a quarterly date syncing issue on HMRC side with a couple of June QE clients).

Put about 20 July quarter end clients in yesterday in about 5 minutes.

Will get the confirmation emails in 2-3 days then switch MTD on in QBO for each client.

As long as everything syncs, good to go about 15 mins max all in.

Hopefully it was a teething issue with the first one I'm going to wait till I get my email and see what I have to do next before signing up the rest.
Still cant understand why all clients who were over the £85k TO weren't just all automatically transferred.

Because I'd imagine regardless of turnover there will be some on certain schemes exempt from mtd, and it's too hard for hmrcs little ol brain to work out which is and isn't.

I don't know what method you're using but takes me less than a minute to sign each one up!

I'm on Di's side. I've spent 5 hours today on it already, and find it incredible anybody found it easy. For starters, you can't log in at the usual place. Easy once you know, but makes the whole thing impossible until you manage to get through on the phone to be told that. And calling them takes forever, with the worst voice recognition system ever in the history of the world which has not once recognised 'Make Tax Digital'. And when you do get through, I've been given really daft advice twice which I've now found out was totally wrong. You really need to ask for the Make Tax Digital team. None of the others have much idea at all and you will end up on a wild goose chase.

Anyway, finally started registering clients for MTD. Another frustrating bit where it says the company isnt registered for VAT. Another phone call to find out you need to add a zero to the registration number (! really ?) And off we go again, register one client, he successfully verifies his address and so feel OK about carrying on, and register another 10. They all get an email telling them to log into their Government Gateway account, and if I tell them how, they get a message saying they need an agent service account. Back on the phone, and they have no idea why they got sent the wrong email and none are registered, so I did exactly the same thing again for all 10, and the first one has just emailed to say it worked. So fingers crossed, it's looking hopeful, but still nowhere near being able to file a VAT return! It'll be interesting to see what I receive in 72 hours, if anything.

Not one of mine get an email to see they need to log into their gateway account.
I spend 30 seconds entering their details, they get an email to click on to confirm to receive notices electronically. Separately within 72 hours I get an email to say client enrolled and then I can see their first MTD Return period dates on Taxfiler. Job done

Make it even easier than that and just click the button to 'only receive letters' then you don't have to put client email address in and they don't get a confusing email which they then bother you about.

The first time round you entered the client's email where you should have put yours, hence why they got the email advising them to log in to their agent services account, which they don't have.

Im not sure where you are going wrong, but this has been the easiest & quickest sign up process I have ever done with HMRC

Start by signing into your ASA account(Doing this first I have found to be essential). Then go to this link https://www.gov.uk/guidance/sign-up-for-making-tax-digital-for-vat and select 'Sign up your clients business' about half way down the page.

Follow on screen instructions and it should take you a minute or 2 at most to complete. Usually get confirmation emails with in 24 hours.

Thanks, and that is what I've been following, all the way down to the link to 'sign up your clients business' and that's where it went wrong. But have re-done them and think it should be OK this time.

That's exactly where it went wrong with me! Two phone calls later I was told to skip a step and that was when I found a link where I have to enter client vat reg and NI number now I am doing the waiting game for the email and the next step?

Exactly. I can only think people aren't following instructions correctly. Sorry, but has to be said.

Thats not exactly true btw. As I say, one worked OK, so I carried on, and at the top right it said 'log out' so I presumed I was still logged in, but have a feeling I had been logged out and so it wasnt coming from my agent account. That is the most likely explanation I would guess. But there was absolutely no way of knowing that it had gone wrong unless you knew what was meant to happen. Everything's easy when you know how.
