Could this be the first? I have today received HMRC's written confirmation that my 86 year old client (who does not own a computer, laptop or mobile device - and never will) is exempted from MTD. Up to now I have input the quarterly figures onto the HMRC VAT portal on his behalf. I suppose that he is a relatively straightforward case in that he can't possibly keep digital records and that, if he wasn't going to be granted exemption, then probably no-one was. Evenso - a minor triumph. But has anyone else beaten me to it?

No, you've beaten us. I have written twice now and just been shunted around until an unambiguous letter arrived telling the client to continue to file as he does now (through the Gateway) but then directing him to notice 700/22 and that he must comply with its requirements.
I have written again to the new address given out 10 days ago - fingers crossed. Client is 74 and we do everything for him, he has no computer and no computer skills.
Well done
Did you write on their behalf.
I have a 85 year client whose bookkeeper is 75 who uses her grandson to enter the amounts online each quarter.
Just called and made an application for exemption for a client who is 71. If its useful info to any who are applying shortly I was asked a fair few questions re whether they were worthy of an exemption. They asked about how the returns are currently submitted, how VAT totals are currently worked out, whether there were any family members who could help and whether the records could be maintained by a third party etc. We'll have to wait and see what the outcome will be...
We don't know the criteria so are in the dark eg what age counts? It would be useful if we post on hear cases that have been accepted or refused.
