I have taken the gigantic first step to sign up my first client with HMRC for MTD VAT. The system very kindly says "you should receive an acknowledgement (by email - if that is your selected communications route) within 72 hours of MTD activation by HMRC" - but so far nothing. Applied early morning 16th May.
Am I worrying unecessarily - has anyone else had delayed response after signing up clients??

Mine came through almost immediately . Check you email settings . I’ve done just one so far myself but will wait until Aweb members give more positive feedback on others aspects .
Mine (using my own gateway) was fine. Client (using their own gateway) not yet received and we did it on 15th May.
I've not started the clients where we are agents yet. Im currently harvesting their preferred emails where they pay by DD.
Some of our Easy MTD VAT clients have reported similar so you are not alone. They sign up and expect to be registered for Making Tax Digital immediately (which I think is a fair expectation), but find they are unable to retrieve their VAT data from HMRC or submit VAT returns. When HMRC finally pull their finger out and enable them for Making Tax Digital its all systems go, thankfully!
We published a knowledgebase article to inform users of the many reasons why they are unable to view their VAT data and submit VAT returns (not being signed up for MTD or a delay in HMRC registering them being a reason)...

Many of the points in the article are relevant no matter what MTD software you use.
I sometimes didn't receive emails confirming sign up so just activated the mtd solution after a few days & found it worked.
I would check & see if this works, alternative just call the Vat line first thing to check enrolled.
I signed up on Monday and did not receive an email confirming sign up but have received an email regarding the DD so it must have worked.
If you go into your old dashboard it says that the client has signed up for MTD
so that is a way to check.
Yes I know that's another way of checking on the old gateway however they only implemented this recently following their maintenance works, prior to this the only way to find out was by either turning on mtd function on the software or calling them.
By the way to those saying you can't see a client listing in the ASA I can see all our clients in our ASA you just have to delve a little deeper to find it.
I have for one client encountered a really odd thing whereby the gateway says he has had an agent sign him up for vat. He does not, however, have an agent for VAT and his agent for SA has not signed anyone up.
We are looking at this issue with HMRC at the moment, but if anyone else has anything like that please comment.
The helplines don't understand what is happening with this.
I just received an email to confirm the client I signed up through my ASA is registered for MTD. I don’t know if he had to activate an email or not.
I have not received an email regarding my own sign up but when I go into the old gateway then it says I am registered if I click on Change VAT details for example, it says you can’t since this business is registered for MTD.
Good People, I have been trying to register two clients for MTD via my Gateway, as permitted. So far I have not been able to get past "Confirm Your Client's VAT Number". When I press "Confirm and Continue" the screen freezes and the Green Button goes a pale green, and there the caravan rests.
The Help Desk seems to be no help. They keep telling me that clients have to register themselves, it cannot be done via an agent, and then re-authorised as clients, patently wrong and against all the website guidance.
I have found that some things get really slow during the day. It is worth trying these sort of things outside work hours if you are having problems.
