My tax code higher than standard

Includes expenses i think

Didn't find your answer?

My 17/18 tax code is 1175L. It is higher than the standard tax code due to uniform cleaning allowance. Currently my tax return is showing an underpayment of £50. Do I enter the £250 in expenses on my tax return? So tax liability comes down to nil.

If your income is in PAYE and you have no liability to tax then why are you doing a tax return?

What a staggering coincidence that would be.

Are you working for an airline? I have done a few tax returns for airline employees [they have other income too..usually rental hence the requirement to file] and their tax codes do indeed reflect an annual allowance for say uniform cleaning expenses which is why their coding is higher. Its usually a set amount. So its not that much of a coincidence if it is £250. Sounds about right to me. And yes you put the £250 in employment expenses. Boxes 17-20 i think
