Myfirmsapp Feedback

Didn't find your answer?

Has anyone here got some helpful feedback on myfirmsapp as I am interested in the product but not sure that the benefit warrants the investment cost.

Thanks in advance

I am always suspicious of 'great' reviews...(and indeed poor ones) - I like to look for the middle ground, those who point out failings but are happy. It usually gives a more balanced view of a product. Afterall one size never fits all...

But why pay all that for a mileage tracker when the most expensive one here costs £2.49?

If that is all that is required then I agree. It is the package as a whole that I like.
My watch has a tracker which is very accurate.
There are trackers everywhere. We will have to fit one to the car when my teenage son passes his test for insurance purposes.
I have found a device which is more useful which attaches to car keys and glasses...................... Have to get that one

I agree - I'll continue to use other dedicated trackers which (I can confirm) are still more accurate despite the MFA improvement and have much more functionality. My point is that I would never invest in, or recommend to my clients, a product if I wasn't confident that every function was in full working order. But to repeat, my main gripe was not about the app - much of it is very good - or the fact that only one component wasn't working properly, but about MyFirmsApp's response to my suggestion that the tracker could be improved.

I think it depends what you are looking to use it for. For us as a small practice embracing technology we have the myfirmsapp and use it as a marketing tool. Not many other firms in our city have apps so it was good for us to use it to distinguish ourselves. It got us great PR coverage in the local paper & with the local chamber of commerce and ultimately lead to us securing the opportunity to talk about cloud accounting & technology in the chamber. For us it is a way of attracting our ideal clients that possibly aren't so fussed in using the app but like the fact that we have one and we appear to be more in tune with cloud accounting because of it.

It has worked well for us as a marketing tool & saves the cost of tax rate cards being printed. It is expensive but was worth it for us although I get it won't suit everyone.

I spoke too soon. 35-mile journey this morning. According to MFA, time taken 47.2 minutes (spot on), distance travelled 0 miles (not so spot on).

It's a good job you knew it was 35 miles :)

I knew it was 35 miles because both my odometer and another app (also running in the background) told me so.

Try turning on location services for the app, and don't forget to charge your device. Too busy working on the venom again rather the enquiring why there is a problem. No doubt you will think of an insult to respond to me again.

There was no venom there. He just said it still wasn't working.

The only insult here is your insult to my intelligence - phone was fully charged and location services set to 'always'. So, please do tell me why there is a problem. Because MFA don't seem to be too interested in answering the question, only repeating that they've thousands of other users that have never indicated an issue.

Without sounding patronising please try scroll down the location services to the app line for mfa. on apple ios 10.1.1 it says allow location access which should be ticked "while using the app" rather than never. Not sure how this is described on Android.
One of our first clients to use the app had the same issue and the above solved it following a pleasant conversation with the helpline.
Does this work?

If you check you will see that there are in fact 3 options. "Never" - self-explanatory, "while using the app" - again self-explanatory, and which would I would expect to give me the problem that I've been experiencing, and "always" - again self-explanatory, which should solve the problem. But it doesn't.

And, yes, I've tested both 2nd and 3rd options above. I haven't bothered to test 'never', as I'm pretty certain of the outcome but perhaps I should do so in case 'never' means 'always' and vice versa in IOS language?

Do you travel regularly in places of poor reception?

No I don't. However, I've noticed that the app has just been updated to allow tracking in the background - time to give it another go.

Hi Ruddles,

Please let me introduce myself: I head up the Research & Development team at MyFirmsApp.

I am concerned by some of the points you raise on AccountingWeb and wonder if you can spare the time to talk to me about your experience of the Mileage Tracker, as we have been unable to replicate the problems you mention. I appreciate you will be very busy and will not benefit directly from a call, but it is very important for us to deliver a product that always exceeds expectation and your feedback is invaluable.

Please let me know if a call is possible. My email address is [email protected]

If that is the case, Justin, then why did the developers deem it necessary to release an "exciting 2016" update that includes "background tracking of journeys" (top of the new features list)?

Sorry Ruddles. When I refer to replicating the challenges you have faced, I was referring to no mileage being tracked.

Background tracking is a new feature, based on customer feedback. All of our development is customer and user led.

To get to the bottom of this, would it be possible for us to have a call together?

You have failed to grasp the nature of my complaint - which has always been that the app did not track in the background. But it does beg the question - you say that no other users reported my problem; if that is so then which customers requested background tracking, and why?

Ok so just for complete clarity. I am referring to your comment regarding 0 miles being tracked, not background tracking.

Not being able to track in the background is of course something we could replicate as historically the mileage tracker was not designed to work in that way.

Based on customer feedback, we recently implemented this feature.

Unfortunately it is very difficult to support via a forum, so it would be good for us to have even a small conversation by phone - if that isn't achievable, not a problem, but we should maybe talk directly via email?

Thanks again

How many times do I have to say this? The reason 0 miles were being tracked was because I was trying to track in the background. That was my complaint - the tracker wasn't designed to work in that way, despite other apps being able to do so. I have no desire to turn my phone into a brick in order to track mileage on it.

I am well aware that the fault therefore lay with me, because I wasn't following the instructions, but, when I raised this issue with MFA - suggesting that it could be improved by allowing background tracking - the stock answer was "we have 100,000 other users perfectly happy with the app". I'm not sure if your 'customer feedback' included my complaint (and/or feedback from others outside that 100,000) but I am glad that you have at last seen fit to do something about it.

pen and paper really doesn't sound that hard to keep. Whatever works for that person using it I guess ....but I never get surprised by the 'new' technology about to aid us that in another way costs us (time/money etc).

I have an app from My Firms App and it is brilliant. I offer it as free when new clients sign up, pointing out that from that app they can log on to my cloud accounting services and receiptbank, it they use the mileage allowance then they can record and download their data in the app. Plus there is a lot of useful information. It does produce new clients as people see someone using it and want to know where it comes from. Another accountant I regularly meet also has an app which has been recommended by a non client to all their sales reps for recording mileage and she has gained new clients from people the sales reps know who were looking for an accountant

Hi Everybody

Firstly, please let me introduce myself. I head up the Research & Development team at MyFirmsApp and my team’s focus is to deliver an exemplary experience for all users of our App.

Feedback from our customers is always invaluable and I would like to thank all involved in this thread, for their comments.

I would appreciate the opportunity to talk directly to those that have posted as it’s always difficult to get to the core of an issue in an online forum / thread. And in particular relation to the Mileage Tracker report, we would like to get to understand more about the points raised, as this is not a known issue and is something we have been unable to replicate.

My email address is [email protected] and I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi
We have had this App for about two years. We used it extensively as a Freeby in our marketing Campaign. Nearly everyone of our new customers had the APP on their phone when they first visited us which was great. We found one of our bank managers was using the APP for the tax tables while talking to new customers. An excellent advert for us

I can imagine that as a marketing tool it's quite useful, and perhaps a way to justify the expenditure (potentially @ £300+ per month) for a smaller practitioner as part of a major marketing campaign, the app cost may therefore appear relatively small in comparison.

Welcome to Aweb and your first post.

Had a look at this but also reached the same conclusion.

Didn't seem to be great value for the investment.
