Mystery payment form the DWP

Anyone got any idea what this is?

Didn't find your answer?

On reviewing a client's bank records, there's a payment received in November 2019 from "DWP Resource Manag" followed by a ten digit number that isn't the UTR of either the company or the individual.

The business is a limited company trading as a mostly NHS dental practice. The owner has no idea what this is for and a google search for the department isn't illuminating. The payment is for about £1500.

Anyone know what this is for?

A stab in the dark - could it be a payment from DWP for people receiving free dental treatment on universal credit?

No idea but I have a client who pays DWP each month for an attachment against an employee's pay.
Have any of the staff had attachments to their earnings in favour of DWP? Maybe that was somehow overpaid and is being refunded for you to give back to the employee? (Unlikely but thought I'd mention it)

Hmmm, couple of good ideas but I don't think there's been any attachments in the last couple of years and I think people on UC would just fall in to the NHS funded treatments that are paid in the big lump sums.

I'm at least reasonably convinced it's income of the business rather than anything personal accidentally lumped in to the account, but it's annoying.

An equally long shot ... but did the client work for DWP at some point in the past?
DWP Resource Management System used to be (may still be?) the HR system used by DWP according to https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploa...

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/dwp-monthly-payments-explanat... also contains a wonderful piece of understatement where it says "The department’s accounting system descriptions were designed for internal use and not external publication."
No $hit Sherlock!

I got as far as that and no further in my online quest to discover what it's all about. No previous employment outside dentistry and the bank account is for a limited company so it seems unlikely, plus I've asked the client multiple times providing all the information I do have, I feel like they would have mentioned it by now!

I love that list of corporate abbreviations though, there's so many duplicates!

AC Account
AC Air Conduction (Ear)
AC Anderson Consultants
AC Additional Component

Make up your mind!

An apprentice grant maybe? I think they were about that much.

Edit : Usually from local councils, but just a stab in the dark.

It would appear to be the Kickstart Grant given the details provided if that makes any sense given your clients business.

Does it look like a UTR?
If so it could have been paid into the wrong bank account.
Check to see if it is valid...
