NEST pension contribution not showing

...according to the employee

Didn't find your answer?

We do the payroll for a client in Moneysoft. The pension contributions were exported & imported to NEST, now are uploaded directly from within Moneysoft. The contributions are being taken from the client’s bank account by NEST.

One of the e’ees (start date Nov 17, straight into AE) tells me they rang NEST to check the contributions and there was no record of them having received any. I can see that they were uploaded & can see their name and £ in each month’s schedule.

Why would this be the case? Is the person the e’ee spoke to at NEST just plain wrong?

Has anyone ever come across this before? Is it a nightmare that will be discovered in 10/20/40 years time that all the £ is sat in a suspense account, unallocated?

Had this from an irate ex-employee of a client company with Peoples. She was told she didn't exist on their records.

She appears on the stuff we sent, her NI number's fine so I'm happy we've done our bit. I was thinking it might be because she's an ex- employee and got herself archived somewhere.

I never resolved this as she's bu99ered off to Australia to work there for a year.

What about client inviting employee to call Nest from the office, to make sure employee is giving the information client holds on his records.
I once had an employee who handed me what later turned out to be a relative's P45 (their names were the same). Employee poorly paid so presumably claimed benefits to which not entitled.

Update - apparently we had the wrong NINO for the e’ee, which solves 1 problem.

Anyone know how I change it for historical contributions with NEST?

The employee has to contact NEST who will correct the NI number on the existing employee record, you will then see the correct NI number when you log into the contributions schedule on the NEST website.

It seems strange that the employee didn’t notice the wrong NI number on their payslip and that HMRC haven’t issued a correction as they are normally pretty quick to do, have you had any tax code changes for the employee or a previous P45?

Is it worth getting further evidence of the employee’s correct NI number in case they are the one remembering the wrong details?

TBH it was just a transitional adjustment & apparently they'd been telling the employer for months, so I'm happy that they're current. The e'ee has had recent g'ment correspondence so they've had recent exposure to their NINO.

Not in my experience.

I would definitely want some more evidence but doubt that the employee would have old P60's and payslips from other employments. Could HMRC help?
Most employees have no knowledge of what their NI number is and won't be checking their payslips to make sure it's right!
