New email zip viruses observed

Didn't find your answer?

Just a general warning. I'm sure most of you don't need this. We've received a deluge of different email zip viruses today, most of which would be somewhat plausible to the unwary. They are variations on ones that we've seen before.

Among them a notification of direct debit by HM Land Registry, and a notification of electronic P6 for employees.

Thanks for the warning, Tom

We haven't had any, but I will be on the lookout.

spam noted, with thanks.

Yep, I've received same, a plausible Land Registry spam.

Spam thanks

Yes just received one for P6.

It does look plausible until you read the huge disclaimer at the bottom !

It mentions a firm of Middlesbrough Solicitors Punch Robson...who might be wondering what's going on.

Also filing responses

There are also versions that have text from the HMRC filing response about your filing having been received. However they have an attachment, whereas the real ones don't.

Quickbooks

We also had a realistic one from what appeared to be quickbooks.com (whereas Quickbooks emails would come from Intuit). Unfortunately, one of my staff opened the attachment, so everyone is now under instruction to delete all emails with Zip files. With the advent of Dropbox enabling the upload of much larger files, plus we use our own online portal as well, there is no need for clients to use Zips any more.

Land Registry - Phishing E-mail

Us too!! Presume no-one opened the attachment, of course. Also presume the e-mail was forwarded to the Land Registry "phishing" e-mail unit.......

@ Andy Reeves - Is it the one where you pay hundreds of pounds for QuickBooks and then find it wastes hours of your time and can't even do the VAT properly?
