New Limited Company Letter to HMRC CT Services

How many directors to sign the letter to HMRC CT Services

Didn't find your answer?

I've just drafted the letter to HMRC CT Services providing the details for a new limited company (to send along with the 64-8).  Is it OK for just one director to sign the letter, or do all the directors need to sign (there are several directors)??  I don't want the letter being rejected because of this!

Electronic is quicker for 64-8
HMRC send a letter in post to registered office with code for you to use

Hi Paul. I'm fine with the 64-8, it's just the letter alongside it. I normally just set up companies for a sole director, or husband and wife (so easy for both to sign the letter). With this company, there are 4 directors, all at different addresses & working remotely, so it's easier if just one director can sign the letter, but obviously if HMRC require all 4 to sign, then I will arrange that.

Why are your providing any details of a new company?

HMRC sets the file up based on information from Companies House.

I am providing HMRC with the details that used to be on form CT41G years ago, such as when the company started trading, directors' tax references and national insurance numbers etc. I've been doing this via a letter ever since that form was phased out. I'm pretty sure I was advised by HMRC to do this at the time.

You don't need to.

+1
Chances are that a fair few such letters never get dealt with.
Chances are if HMRC do away with the form then they do want substitute forms

OK, right. Looks like I might have been wasting my time with these letters all these years then..!! Knowing HMRC, you're probably right that some of the letters never get dealt with...

Why do you need a covering letter with the 64-8?
