HMRC phone lines will be open Sat 30th 8-6 and Sunday 31st 9-6

It's ok opening them, but getting anybody to answer in a reasonable time is impossible these days.

The other (in my humble submission) at least equally important aspects of the HMRC letter (as commented upon by ICAEW) are:-
(1) HMRC again effectively guaranteeing appeal WILL be accepted if delay is Covid-related,
(2) Possible means being considered by HMRC for agents to submit composite
appeals (ie for multiple clients),
(3) Penalty Notices probably to be issued later than normal (at least impliedly from
the sentence beginning “We will not start”).

Are people really going to be working next weekend dealing with the dregs of their client base who waltz in next Monday looking for a return?
Its like enabling a drug addict.
